About

I create unique botanical images and craft small, handmade sculptural wood objects. My work is deeply connected to, influenced and inspired by nature. For this reason, materials used are sustainably, ethically and locally sourced near where I live and work in the Lothians, Scotland.

My creative practice spans twenty-four years, working predominantly in make-up artistry from 1994, and evolving naturally with time to integrate body art and photography.  I spent the last ten years of this time working in Further Education (FE), developing and delivering courses within the Creative Industries.

Towards the end of 2016, a friend introduced me to New Caledonian Woodlands, a charity and social enterprise whose aim is to encourage environmental sustainability, whilst supporting people to improve their mental well-being.  So, seeking a new way to live, work and manage my well-being, I opted for Voluntary Redundancy and the opportunities it would offer. With a farewell to FE and make-up artistry, I joined New Caledonian Woodlands on one of their projects – Fruitful Woods – as a volunteer. It was so different to anything I had ever done before, but knew it was the right path for me to take.

Over the year, I was given and developed the skills and knowledge required for green woodworking and woodland management. I discovered that I loved working in the woodlands, immersed in nature, and found deep solace in the mindful process of carving a wood object. I began to notice that I was being drawn towards nature more and started working with flowers to create photographic images. This, in turn, led me to undertake a course in Botanical Illustration at The Royal Botanical Gardens in Edinburgh, successfully graduating with a Distinction.

My year as a volunteer came to an end and, luckily, I was invited to progress onto Fruitful Woods Collective as a self-employed Maker. This provided me with the time, space and motivation to establish the creative business you see today, based on a foundation of mindful ethics, inspired by nature.
